I was a teenager going to the beach in Manhattan Beach ... I was riding my bike, in the street. A car pulled into their garage, the garage door went up via control and a bull mastiff walked out and saw me. I rode to the OPPOSITE side of the street and the dog started running at me. I must have been it's "deer for the day." I was screaming for the owners to call it off. It chased me for 2 blocks, never growling or barking. I reported it but the stupid dog control couldn't find the house. I wanted to kill that mutt. But this guy should be able to prove insurability with his training certificate. -

Unbelivable!! I have been the owner of Two Bull Mastiffs which have passed on, one with age the other protecting me against Coyotes, and never did they bite or attack a person. they are perhaps the most lovable, obediant, loyal anf faithful companions of the dog world, they are getting a bad reputation based on their size and apperance, perhaps if these insurance people would take the time and buy a mastiff or adopt one they would find out exactly what a good natured dog the Mastiff really is. As an insurance agent, I feel bad that this family could not acquire coverage from the said company. I am lucky i write for multiple carriers as many companies have restrictions for dog breed, some of which will accept "high-risk" breed either with a premium surcharge or a waiver providing NO COVERAGE for dog bites. As a homeowner, however, by owning the dog, you take all the risk and responsibilty of that dog, including higher insurance premiums or even company refusals. Everyone's pitbull, doberman, and rotweiler is "the sweetest", "doesn't hurt a fly", or "will lick ya to death", until something happens that causes the dog to attack. Then it becomes "That's suprising, he's never done that before". Those claims are paid out by an insurance company...then guess who has to make up the difference... everyone else in the form of rate increases. Not selectively rating or declining due to dog breed is unfair to everyone else. -

I feel sorry for this family. But other people have made it bad for the rest of us out here who makes sure our dogs have manners. This is a real problem ***Dog bites*** Sorry family... but this Bull**** is real. -

That is absurd !!! We have a Bullmastiff and he is gentle and and loving to everyone and everything -- 2-legged and four-legged. Anyone who knows anything about the breed - obviously the insurance underwriters do not - would know that this breed is a Family Dog, not a "Dangerous Breed". Did I hear the dog owner state that the dog has a certificate for "Doggie Good Citizenship" ???????? -

YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING. I have a Bull Mastiff and she is the sweetest dog I own (I have 3). She is loving, kind, easy going. I had twins living with me since she was 6 months old until last month. She NEVER was aggressive with the twins (they are 3 and one half now). They use to pull her ears, pick her nose, look in her gums, fall on her; fall over her, NOT ONCE did she ever do anything but look at them or lick them. SHE NEVER HAS HAD AGGRESSIVE TENDENCIES. She has a lot of health issues (hip displasia) and even though she is in pain - she never goes out of her sweet disposition!!! I can't believe this - what state do you live in? Remind me not to move there. -
