The rebate is nothing more than a temporary comfort to the mindless American. People think they are getting free money. THERE IS NO SUCH THING ! Who do you think will be required to pay back this 'free' money ? ALL OF US ! But Congress knows the average American will see the rebate as free money. Next year, when Congress tries to balance the budget all of us will see an increase in our taxes. Bush is using this rebate to try and bolster his image which has been destroyed with the Iraq war. He doesn't want to end his term on a negative. He's hoping people will focus on the 'free' money they received. To the poster who complained that her husband is ONLY making $34.00 hr. I'm sure there are plenty of people out there who would LOVE to have the headache of ONLY making $34.00 hr. -

Has nothing to do with trade and China, more to do with people not saving enough money. If Americans started to save millions, every years, this would drive the interest rates down alone.Government can get the heck out of it. Banks won't pay high interest on savings, that lowers interest rates, the banks then uses the money not spent on interest payments to invest or make loans, SHA-ZAM, economy is strong because Americans borrow against sound savings thus use their money better then average people in China, Japan and Scape-goats shopping Walmart. DANG IT! -

This guy is right on! We are borrowing money from the Chinese than we have to pay back with interest, so that we can buy cheap Chinese goods from Walmart! Get out this Trillion dollar war and balance the dang budget! -
