A class of their own ... seven years on
description: June 24, 2007: Seven years ago Ray Martin visited Wilcannia to bring you a 'good news' story, now spend two hours there and you discover that alcoholism, bashings and sexual abuse against children is ripping the place apart.

James Hackett, Angela Bonham and Ms Johnstone had no right to publicly make generalized claims against these people. The children have a right to their privacy and to not have stigma attached to them because of where they came from. This can only increase their pain and trauma. The girl who achieved the HSC was at school for 13 yrs and her education achievements were supported by many people over that period and not the result of 1.5yrs of association with Hackett. The so-called "truth" of the Wilcannia story as told by the "3 Stooges", may be correct but airing on national TV is a shameful and heartless thing to do. Convicted pedophiles aren't even publically denoounced, why should the people of Wilcannia suffer that indignity??? -

Wow, my heart aches. That people have not the ability to see what is good. But to only feel attacked by the truth. The children suffer and life goes on in painfull ignorance, which will breed more ignorance....... So the cycle continues. Perhaps 60 minutes and the teachers could have made an alliance with the grandparents in the community and the outcome could have been more bearable. At least they would have been stronger in dealing with the fallout with some support. -
